Released on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day, “Appointment with Vietnamese Movies” brings audiences back to many familiar stories of Vietnamese cinema, in which Hanoi becomes one of the prominent spaces. The program not only introduces works that have left an impression on generations of viewers, but also creates opportunities for young audiences to approach history through the language of cinema, from stories of war and revolution to love, family and the desire for peace.

The film chosen to open the show is “Hanoi Baby”, a work that takes viewers back to the days when the Capital was devastated by American bombs through little girl Ha’s journey to find her father. In the context of fierce war, the film still devotes a lot of silence to the love, faith and vitality of the people of Hanoi, values that have become deep memories for many generations of audiences. Next, on October 9, the program “Hanoi Winter 46” aired, recreating the challenging period before the outbreak of the national resistance. On October 11, audiences will see “Peach, Pho and Piano” again, a film that tells the story of love, devotion and the beauty of the soul of Hanoi people amid war bombs. Next week, two episodes of “August Stars” will be broadcast on October 15 and 16, bringing viewers back to the boiling atmosphere of the revolutionary autumn days. On October 17, “The Golden Key” continued the film with a story of love and desire for happiness in the context of wartime Hanoi. On October 18, “Don’t Burn” continued the program with the story of female doctor Dang Thuy Tram and her diary recording her ideals of life, love and desire for peace. Through each work, the program creates a flow of memories connecting war and revolution to the spiritual life of Vietnamese people, and shows that cinema can become a close and emotional way of telling history. For audiences who have been attached to these films, “Date with Vietnamese Movies” is an opportunity to meet again the characters, frames and stories that have become a part of personal memories. For the younger generation, this is an opportunity to approach history not only through data but also through the fates, emotions and choices of people in each period. That approach helps values such as patriotism, sacrifice, family love and the desire for peace become closer to the public today. “Appointment with Vietnamese movies” airs at 8:30 p.m. on Hanoi channel 1, Hanoi Newspaper and Radio and Television Agency. Movies are broadcast from Thursday to Sunday every week and rerun from Monday to Wednesday.
