Tonkatsu Wako opens its first store in Vietnam, bringing famous Japanese flavors to Ho Chi Minh City
Tonkatsu Wako brand, famous in Japan since 1958 and loved for more than 60 years, officially launched in Vietnam with its first store located in Saigon Center.

Tonkatsu is one of Japan’s typical dishes, made from fresh pork, coated with breadcrumbs and fried to a crispy golden brown. This seemingly simple dish contains sophistication, because the flavor changes significantly depending on the quality of meat, coating, frying oil as well as processing technique. Along with sushi and ramen, Tonkatsu is considered a symbol of Japanese culinary culture.

The pork is cooked according to a separate process, the fried dough is freshly ground right at the store from exclusive recipe bread, combined with 100% pure vegetable frying oil. In particular, rice is imported directly from Japan (the type of rice selected to suit Tonkatsu dish) to ensure the original flavor. Thanks to that, Wako brings diners in Vietnam a standard Japanese culinary experience, maintaining the same quality and flavor as in their homeland.
Kama traditional pot rice
Each person’s portion of rice is cooked separately in a small Kama pot – called “Traditional Kama pot rice”, the rice grains are shiny and fragrant – a pride that can only be found at Wako.

Focus on training technical interns
Since 2019, Tonkatsu Wako has accepted technical interns, and currently there are 42 interns at the company. The company pays special attention to Japanese language education, with impressive achievements: 3 students achieved N1 certificate, 7 students achieved N2 certificate.
Among the interns who have completed the program, 7 have passed the restaurant industry’s specific skills exam and are currently working officially as core personnel, contributing as effectively as Japanese employees.
For new stores in the city. Ho Chi Minh City, 2 excellent interns were selected, possessing knowledge of Japanese culture and processing techniques. With the philosophy of “Learning Japanese disciplines, techniques and language”, Wako will continue to actively welcome and train interns, creating quality human resources for the future.
Chairman Wako realized his dream of opening a store in Vietnam
Since receiving technical intern trainees from Vietnam to Japan, President Wako has always cherished the wish: one day to open a store in their hometown, so that the interns can return and have the opportunity to work at Wako Vietnam, continuing to develop the skills they have learned.
After many years of perseverance, with the enthusiasm and efforts of the staff, this idea was accepted by the Director of Saigon Center, creating conditions for the opening of a new store in the city. Ho Chi Minh.
