Hanoian Kitchen – A simple lunch tray in the heart of the Capital
In the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, between high-rise buildings, modern cafes and an increasing number of fast food chains, it is difficult to find a true tray of rice – a place with a bowl of hot soup, a plate of fragrant meat braised with coconut, or a plate of green boiled vegetables dipped in a bit of spicy garlic and chili fish sauce. Yet, in a small alley on Hoang Ngoc Phach street, there is still a place that preserves all those flavors – Hanoian Kitchen.

No bright signs, no elaborate slogans, Hanoian Kitchen chooses a simple way: every day, a decent, delicious and affordable lunch tray for anyone who is tired in the middle of work and craves a home-cooked meal.
Lunch tray – the taste of familiarity
On October 16, when the autumn sun in Hanoi was just mild enough, Hanoian Kitchen introduced a lunch tray that made many diners “nod” and remember the meal their mother cooked. The menu that day included familiar dishes:crispy roasted pork skin, meat braised with coconut, fried chicken with fish sauce, white beans braised with soy sauce, omelet, fried chayote, boiled water spinach and sour don soup.
At first glance, these are just very ordinary dishes that can be found in any Vietnamese family kitchen. But at Hanoian Kitchen, each dish is cared for down to every little detail. The roast meat is roasted by hand, the skin is crispy, the meat is soft without being greasy. Fried chicken covered with fragrant fish sauce, both salty and sweet, reminds of the “roasted chicken” dish that many Hanoians have eaten since childhood. DishBraised white beans with pork fat and soy sauce– it sounds rustic – is the highlight of lunch. The fleshy taste of the beans, the salty taste of the country’s soy sauce mixed with the golden pork rind makes the eater both strange and familiar.
Indispensable is the bowlsour soup– simple dish but helps balance all flavors. Green boiled water spinach, golden omelettes or a plate of sweet and crispy stir-fried chayote all contribute to creating a delicious meal.
Everything is presented simply but elegantly. It’s not a sophisticated “fine dining” style, but looking at it makes you feel warm – a feeling that can only be named in two words:“my house”.
Affordable price – quality “standard of mother’s cooking”
While many office restaurants in Hanoi have prices ranging from 60,000–80,000 VND, Hanoian Kitchen still maintains a price that makes diners “smile”:
-
Braised white beans with soy sauce:40,000 VND
-
Omelette:30,000 VND
-
Stir-fried chayote:30,000 VND
Salty dishes such as braised meat, fried chicken or roasted meat are also at the same price.
Not only food, the restaurant also servesfemale ginseng tea (10,000 VND)andiced tea (5,000 VND)– cool, light drinks in the spirit of “home-cooked meals in the middle of the street”.
“We want our guests to feel comfortable and at home. A delicious meal doesn’t need to be too fancy, it just needs to be clean, delicious and nutritious,” – Ms.Thu Hang, founder of Hanoian Kitchen, shares.
She said that the idea of opening a restaurant came from her nostalgia for home meals during her years of working away. “That day, I ate fast food every lunch, and at one point I just wanted a bowl of vegetable soup or a piece of meat braised with coconut but didn’t know where to find it. So I thought, why not make my own place where everyone can find that familiar taste?”
“Fulfill memories” – when a meal is a memory
Not simply a restaurant, Hanoian Kitchen chose an emotional message:“Fulfill memories” – Fill up memories.

Each tray of rice here is not only to fill the stomach, but also to “fill the heart”. For many people, it is a memory of childhood in a small kitchen, of mother, of simple but warm old days. As for young people living far away from home, Hanoian Kitchen is a place to help them find a sense of belonging amid the hustle and bustle of life.
Diner Nguyen Huy, an office worker on Huynh Thuc Khang street, shared:
“I work nearby so I often stop by to eat. The restaurant is small but clean, the dishes are familiar and delicious, especially the braised meat with coconut – the taste is just like my mother used to cook. One day, after eating, I even ordered female ginseng tea. Sitting and relaxing, I felt like I was back home.”
And sisterPhuong Anh, a long-time customer, is impressed with the way the restaurant maintains its style:
“The space here is not flashy, but cozy and feels ‘true to Hanoi’. I like the way they call the food in a friendly voice, like ‘today’s tray of rice will have crispy roasted meat!’ – it sounds extremely familiar.”
A small corner of Hanoi retains its ancient soul
Hanoi cuisine is famous for its sophistication in every small detail – from the way of seasoning, presentation to the love of the cook. Hanoian Kitchen clearly understands that, so even though it’s just a popular restaurant, everything is carefully prepared.

The shop’s space is only a few dozen square meters, gently decorated with warm wood tones, sometimes dotted with bouquets of field flowers or old photos of Hanoi. Rustic tables and chairs, ceramic bowls and bowls – all create a familiar feeling.
Lunch at Hanoian Kitchen is not just about eating, it’s about one thingSmall rituals of slowing down: so that people can breathe, feel the smell of new rice, hear the sound of the ladle hitting the pan, the bustling laughter of strangers but finding one thing in common – the taste of home.
In the middle of the city, there are still places that retain simplicity
Among countless modern culinary options, Hanoian Kitchen is like a warm note in the bustling music of the city. There, people don’t need a fancy check-in, don’t need a “visual” meal – just a tray of rice that’s enough, delicious and full of love.

Those who have visited Hanoian Kitchen all have the same feeling:“delicious, clean, and real”. Perhaps, that is also the reason why the restaurant gradually becomes a familiar meeting place for office workers around the Dong Da – Ba Dinh area every afternoon.
Hanoian Kitchen not only serves meals, but also “restores” a culture that is gradually being forgotten –home plate culture. In an era where everything is fast, this place still chooses to slow down, so that each meal is a “filling of memories” – just like the message they send:“Fulfill memories.”
