Hanoi plans to subsidize the electric bus route connecting Gia Lam with Hung Yen

The Hanoi People's Committee has approved the policy of adjusting the plan to operate the inter-provincial electric bus route connecting Gia Lam Bus Station with Hung Yen Bus Station, switching from an autonomous business model to a model with a subsidized budget. The plan is expected to help reduce travel costs for passengers, promote green transportation and increase connections between Hanoi and Hung Yen.

The policy to adjust the operation plan of the inter-provincial electric bus route Gia Lam Bus Station – Hung Yen Bus Station has just been approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee.

According to the new plan, the bus route will switch from an autonomous business model to operating in the form of price support from the budget. This content was signed by Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Truong Viet Dung in Official Dispatch No. 4957/UBND-DT. Previously, the policy of opening a new electric bus route connecting Gia Lam Bus Station and Hung Yen Bus Station was approved by the city from early August 2026. The switch to the subsidy model was implemented based on the proposal of Hanoi Transport Corporation. The plan aims to reduce travel costs for passengers, while creating conditions to improve the quality of public passenger transport services. The use of electric vehicles on the route is also expected to contribute to encouraging people to choose green public transportation, gradually forming travel habits in a more environmentally friendly way. In addition to the goal of public transportation, the Gia Lam – Hung Yen electric bus route is also expected to increase connectivity between Hanoi and Hung Yen province, meeting the growing travel demand between the two localities. To implement the new plan, the Hanoi People’s Committee assigned the Department of Construction to coordinate with the Department of Finance, representatives of Hung Yen province and related units to support Hanoi Transport Corporation in completing the operation plan. The authorities will specifically calculate economic and technical norms, develop unit prices, budget estimates and appropriate price subsidy mechanisms. The plan will also be considered for feasibility, socio-economic efficiency as well as the ability to balance local budget sources. After completing the relevant contents, procedures for opening the route will continue to be carried out in accordance with the law. The introduction of the inter-provincial electric bus route into the subsidy model is expected to not only make it more convenient for people to travel between Hanoi and Hung Yen but also contribute to expanding the public transport network, promoting the use of green vehicles and strengthening transport links between localities.
