The 19th edition of Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026 will assign “2 stars” to 26 restaurants and “1 star” to 122 restaurants. The list for next year also includes seven restaurants promoted and 11 new restaurants recognized in the “1-star” category.

Among the restaurants promoted, Myojaku, located in Nishiazabu famous for its exquisite Japanese cuisine, was the only establishment to be upgraded to “3 stars”. Nishiazabu Sushi Shin and restaurants specializing in “kaiseki” (Japanese high-end cuisine) Hakuun and Ensui both joined the “2-star” club. Khao – a place that turns Japanese ingredients into Thai specialties, and Manoir – a restaurant serving light French cuisine, winning a Michelin star for the first time.

Tsuyoshi Nakamura – wine sommelier of Manoir restaurant, was awarded the “Sommelier Award” for his storytelling ability and solid wine expertise.

Kenjiro Kanemoto, the 5th generation owner of eel restaurant Nodaiwa Azabu Iikura Honten – a Michelin one-star restaurant, and the world’s oldest Michelin-certified chef at age 97, was honored with the “Mentor Chef Award”.

Although the number of 160 starred restaurants this year is 10 fewer than in 2025, this does not reduce Tokyo’s position as the city with the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.
Tokyo continues to inspire food lovers through “the virtuosity, creativity and emotional power of its cuisine,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide.

“Tokyo is a city where centuries of culinary tradition meet bold innovation. From sushi prepared with Edo period techniques, to “kaiseki” reflecting the seasons and Japanese culture, to world cuisine reimagined with Japanese flavors and skills, this year’s list once again highlights the extraordinary depth of this metropolis,” said Poullennec.
